Architecturally this image house with a vaulted roof of brick masonry is a “Gedige” type building. Stylistically it belonging to the letter Anuradhapura period. “Gedige” by the size of the 8 meters tall stone door frame, stone reliquary and the lotus pedestal this may have housed a colossal standing image of the Buddha . The sanctum is paved with stone slabs. Which is surrounded by a circumambulatory path and in front there is a vestibule and entresol indications are that the reliquary and the lotus pedestal had been destroyed by fire. There is evidence that there had been two subside diary image houses on other side of this shrine.
