This was called Dharmasala or Dharmamandapa and was to preach the Dhamma and to listen to it. There are entrances on all four sides and in the center on raised ground is a seat adorned with carvings and mouldings. Legend has it that during the reign of king Silakala 522 – 535 A.D. a Dharma pustaka (sacred text) brought annually from the citadel to the Jetavana monasteries was placed in a similar hall and venerated.
