Introduction
This is a brick – built circular well with a stone flight of steps to go down, and was probably used to obtain water for the rituals of the adjacent Bodhighara (Bodhi – tree shrien) . As mentioned in the Mahavamsa, this may have been the well built by king Aggabodhi II (608 – 618A.D.) for the Bodhighara of the Jetavana Monastery.
