Introduction
Alakolagala Ella starts from Makuldeniya Mountains and after the fall, foaming white
river flows via flows to Randapolo tributary into the Kirindi Oya. It is Situated
on the Beragala Wellawaya road with height of 99 feet straight fall and it can be
seen from up to 3km away. The water collects to form a deep pool, significantly
enhancing the beauty of the area that is comprised of jungle, the nearby mountain
ranges (including the peaks of Makuldeniya and Niyankolais), and the high plain
in the west. The jungle is home to free-roaming elephants (Elephus maximus), which
often encroach on sugarcane plantations.
The source of the fall is the Alokola Oya (river), which runs through beautiful
mountains and thick jungle. Situated in the Badulla District, the fall can be reached
by travelling along the Colombo, Ratnapura and Batticoloa highway.
